Overall Job Purpose
The post holder will contribute to the successful implementation of:
· A two-year Nurse Tutor Training Course
· A two year programme of Continuous Professional Development for existing nurse tutors
· And support the strengthening of nurse training institutions

Key Responsibilities
1. Deputise for the Deputy Director as required.
2. Provide leadership, supervision and mentoring for Lecturers.
3. Support the effective management and implementation of the overall programme, giving particular emphasis to monitoring and quality assurance.
4. Maintain an up to date knowledge of Nursing Education and ensure professional, academic and clinical practice credibility.
5. Actively participate in the revision and development of nursing/midwifery curricula.
6. Undertake periodic institutional assessments of training institutions participating in the programme and educational environment audit.
7. Actively participate in the selection and interviewing of candidates for courses and programmes, helping ensure that entrance requirements are met. Assist in the induction of new staff and students.
8. Ensure effective coordination of training delivery.
9. Undertake teaching and marking responsibilities as required for groups of students on both nurse tutor programme and CPD. Quality assure the work of lecturers.
10. Participate in the development, revision, implementation and administration of courses and study days.
11. Evaluate own teaching input and actively participating in quality assurance evaluation and audit.
12. Contribute to the IOHS as a Lecturer and via team and staff meetings.
13. Ensure effective clinical supervision and practice facilitation of students.
14. Ensure effective communication with students, staff and those working in other institutions.
15. Be an effective role model to all staff within the working environment and to students studying there.
16. Have an awareness of own development and training needs.
17. Ensure adherence to training institute policies and procedure at all times. Assist with the development /revision of policies and procedures where necessary.
18. Work within the clinical guidelines.
19. Ensure that training equipment, facilities and the broader training environment are effectively managed.
20. Promote safe working practices.
21. Maintain accurate records and assist in the collation of data in relation to assessments and service statistics.
22. Attend training, education, seminars, conferences and workshops to meet personal CPD needs.
23. Participate in programme related events
24. Assist in the preparation of reports (narrative and financial) for management, MOHL, and donor institutions.
25. Undertake any additional duties deemed appropriate to skills, experience and ability.
Person Specification
Verified at interview (I), by application form (A) or by a test (T)
Essential
· A recognised professional nurse or midwifery qualification (A)
· At least two years in a supervisory role within a relevant health training environment (A)
· Evidence of teaching skills e.g. Certificate Ed, PGCE, or extensive teaching experience (A/I/T)
· Education to degree level in a related subject area (A)
· Excellent communication and presentation skills (A/I/T)
· Excellent English language skills – both oral and written (A/I)
· Excellent diplomatic skills, sensitivity to local cultural context (I)
· Ability to use the clinical supervision process effectively (A/I)
· Leadership skills and ability to build an effective team (I)
· Accountability and integrity (I)
· Creativity and problem solving skills (I)

Remuneration & benefits
The postholder will be entitles to the following remuneration and benefits:
1. Salary of $10,200 per year paid in monthly installments of $850 per month.
2. Accommodation allowance of $300 per month.
3. Return flight to and from Somaliland at the beginning and the end of the two year appointment.
4. One return flight home at the end of Year 1 of the appointment.
5. One paid seven day ‘rest and recuperation’ visit to a neighbouring country per year.
6. 25 days paid annual leave (plus national holidays)
7. Medical / accident insurance
Other Information
General
