Two year contract

A Lead Nurse Tutor is sought to deliver a two year programme of work based in Hargeisa, Somaliland. The postholder will be responsible for implementing and leading a nurse tutor training course and a continuous professional development “CPD” programme for nurse tutors across Somaliland.

The postholder will play a key role in supporting and strengthening nurse training institutes in Somaliland. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of human and institutional capacity, crucial for the rebuilding of the health system in Somaliland.

Reporting to the Director of the Institute of Health Sciences, the postholder will be based in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland but will be expected to travel to other training institutes in the country.

Essential

· A recognised professional nurse or midwifery qualification

· Postgraduate level education in a relevant subject

· Strong programme management skills. At least two years experience of managing/coordinating a nurse training programme

· Evidence of teaching skills e.g. Certificate Ed, PGCE, or extensive teaching experience

· Ability to use the clinical supervision process effectively

· Excellent communication and presentation skills

· Excellent English language skills – both oral and written

· Excellent diplomatic skills, with a ‘firm but fair’ approach

· A strong commitment to institutional development

· Accountability and integrity

· Leadership skills and ability to build an effective team

· Creativity and problem solving skills

· Experience of working with people of different cultures

· Ability to identify and use opportunities for self-development

· Commitment to the values of Equal Opportunities, policy and practice.

· Confident user of Word, Excel and Power point

Desirable

· An additional nursing registration e.g. Learning Disability/Mental Health /Adult Nursing/Paediatric Nursing

· A publication record in relevant professional or research journals
